My house has a spiral staircase. Can you tell me if these cause problems in feng shui?

Answer:

Spiral staircases are a special problem in feng shui. In addition to the spiral shape, they are also a "hole" in the floor wherever they are placed on the top floor.

Additionally, whatever sector they fall in, they represent a corkscrew boring into that sector. The spiral is a corkscrew shape and with the curves of the staircase, it adds extra energy. This goes double for this stair because it's red. Red energizes anything it's added to. So, the red adds extra energy, in this case, negativity, to the spiral action of this stair.

Now, let's say that the staircase falls in the southeast wealth sector, for example, it's possible that the oldest daughter or your investments will suffer setbacks. Because this sector rules the hips and thighs, it's also possible to have an injury to this part of the body.

Whatever sector the staircase falls in has the capacity to do damage to 1) the area governed by the sector, i.e. wealth, 2) the person governed by the sector (SW is the woman, NW is the man, east is the oldest son, etc.), and 3) the part of the body governed by the sector (southwest is the abdomen, northeast is the hands). For a complete list of what each sector governs, be sure to download the bagua (see the links at the bottom of the ezine).

Now: how to handle this staircase? It's better not to have a spiral staircase, but in some homes, a spiral staircase is really the only type of stair that is possible. When this is the case, there is only one remedy: enclosure. The recommendation would be to completely enclose the staircase and enclose the top and bottom with a door.
