Feng Shui : Question And Answer

Question:
My wife insists that our baby and toddler sleep with us and I don't like it. Is sleeping with your children good feng shui?

Answer:
This is a tough question. It's tough because the answer I'm going to give you will probably make some people mad. However, my job is to give you good feng shui advice and not politically-correct advice.

No, sleeping with your kids is not good feng shui. Children should not stay in the marital sleeping space. Children and parents should have separate bedrooms. A recent study in Texas revealed that every other day in Texas an infant dies because a parent or sibling rolls over and suffocates the child. Children are dying from stupidity plain and simple -- the stupidity of the parents. That such a preventable death occurs at all is beyond the capacity of my reasoning. And that 182 babies died this way in 2008? Ugh.

Although it's now popular to have familial beds and bedrooms, it is not good feng shui. Parents need to have their own space for both health and relationship reasons. In psychology, I believe these are called "boundaries." Boundaries are good. When boundaries blur that's when there are problems, whether it's a neighbor who helps themselves to your tools or parents sharing a bed with an infant.

Parents must remember that the child's safety is first and foremost. And if they do, they'll realize that sleeping with them violates the child's safety and it violates the boundaries of the intimate marital relationship. Hang tough, dad; I'm with you.
